What funding tells you
Funding is the periodic payment that keeps a perpetual's price pinned to spot: positive means longs pay shorts, negative means shorts pay longs. Venues quote it over different intervals — hourly on Hyperliquid, eight hours on Binance — which is why PerpData annualizes every rate into apr. A persistent cross-venue spread on DOT is a carry signal: collect the rich side, pay the cheap side.
